Il vient de Boston. Elle vient de Montréal. Ils ont choisi le Vermont, à mi-chemin entre leur ville d’origine, pour se dire devant famille et amis qu’ils s’aiment pour la vie. Voici quelques photos de ce week-end tout simplement magique et parfait, que j’ai eu la chance de photographier cet automne. Merci Alex et Tj pour votre confiance, et félicitations encore pour ce magnifique mariage!
J’étais en week-end à Boston. Un festival de musique appelé Porchfest se déroulait dans le quartier durant ces dates et notre ami qui nous hébergeait organisait aussi un Porchfest à sa demeure. Band, party, Américains… la journée suit son cours. Puis je vois cet homme, différent et un peu en retrait: Are you from Boston? C’est la première phrase qui est sortie de ma bouche. Je le trouvais trop beau (lire stylé) pour venir de cette ville remplie de sportifs et d’étudiants. On a fini la soirée aux aurores, je suis partie sans donner mon numéro (numéro montréalais qu’on se le dise) juste mon nom sur un bout de papier, j’étais encore à Boston pour 5 jours, s’il était le moindrement astucieux, et qu’il voulait me revoir, il n’aurait qu’à me trouver sur Facebook… Il m’a retrouvée, on s’est jamais quittés.
Beaucoup… D’allers retours Montréal-Boston! J’avais mon boulot, mes amis, ma famille à Montréal et inversement pour lui à Boston. On se demandait ce que nous allions faire pour être enfin réunis. Je regardais de mon côté pour un visa de travail, lui aussi. Et puis Bim, la grande question, écrite sur le bout de papier sur lequel j’avais laissé mon nom, à notre première rencontre. Il fallait moins d’un an, des tonnes de paperasses, de sous, de rendez-vous pour que je puisse traverser les douanes dans mon beau U-Haul contenant mon appartement et mes chatons canadiens. Puis soyons honnête, ça allait être plus facile de continuer les préparatifs de ce mariage Franglais dans le même pays.
Passionnément… Une salle de location n’était pas une option pour nous, on voulait un mariage chaleureux, informel, dans un décor rustique et naturel, le chalet d’mononcle Alain, quoi! C’est donc sur une destination à mi-chemin entre Boston et Montréal qu’on avait choisi notre campement. Bridgewater Corners, Vermont. Une cabine privée dotée d’un champ immense, ruisseau et montagnes en arrière-plan inclus, allait nous accueillir. Créatifs de métier, nous ferions les préparatifs, des RSVP aux décorations, en passant par les étiquettes de bière, elles-mêmes brassées par celui qui allait être mon futur mari. On s’attelait à la tâche à coups de planifs et de dates butoir. Ça arrive vite un mariage.
LA journée avait commencé nuageuse, on s’essoufflait à finir les préparatifs, la cueillette de fleurs sauvages dans le champ avec les copines, accrocher les guirlandes dans le chapiteau pendant que le futur mari finalisait le bar où allaient être servis ses kegs, aidé par ses frères. De la pluie, un arc-en-ciel, le choix définitif de ma robe (oui oui, étant à 300 milles de mes petites femmes, les choix se font plutôt en solitaire), c’était finalement le temps de monter l’«allée» où nous attendaient nos amis, nos célébrants. Des voeux écrits par nous, lui en français, moi en anglais, une cérémonie courte mais sincère. C’était maintenant le temps de profiter de tout ce beau monde venu célébrer notre amour. C’était, aussi, ma chance de revoir pour la première fois les gens que j’avais quittés à Montréal, quatre mois auparavant. Un buffet à l’américaine, un gros feu de camp, l’équipe du Skinjackin, dont je faisais partie, était venu nous peindre l’épiderme, des feux d’artifice préparés en catimini, nous avions tous les éléments pour faire de cette soirée, un moment magique entouré du plus beau: la famille, les amis, la nature, la bière and each other.
Digne d’un party bien réussi, Skinjackin était de la partie!
